Cambridge

My major fitness goal for 2015 — beyond just getting back on my bike after a 23-year hiatus — was to be able to ride to my office in Cambridge and back home, same day, a round-trip distance of about 40 miles depending on the route. I accomplished this much earlier than I had anticipated, in early July, so I'll have to come up with a new fitness goal for 2016! My preferred route in, when traveling alone, is 135 to Wellesley Square, then 16 through Newton Lower Falls to Waban, and Beacon St. through Newton Centre and Brookline to Kenmore Square. I haven't yet established a complete route homeward yet, but I like taking Comm. Ave. through Newton (it's mostly downhill, but you have to pay for that after crossing Route 128 because Framingham is well above sea level. The hills on Route 30 in Weston (parallel to the Turnpike) and on Route 16 in Wellesley (coming out of Lower Falls) are both bears.
